Nina Bruun Design Studio has designed the Houkime Rug for MENU. The name originated from the Japanese gardening style, Karesansui. Generally, in Karesansui, white sand is used to express the surface of water and the small lines in the sand are called “Houkime” - representing the flow and ripples of water.
With the Houkime rug it’s been all about creating an exclusive product with subtle characteristics. There is something organic and beautiful about repetition, which is illustrated by the stripes and the rug will compliment any space; private or public, with its tactile expression. The material used is Tencel, which is a fabric made of lyocell and modal fibers. These are produced by environmentally responsible processes from the sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. Tencel is also known for its softness and natural comfort and is a perfect match for the look and feel of Houkime rug.
